Inspiring Tomorrow's Entrepreneurs: Welcoming Passport to Leadership
This week, Ashley and Augusto welcomed an incredible group of students from Passport to Leadership to our El Paseo boutique for an afternoon of entrepreneurship, fresh botanical skincare, and the story behind The Body Deli.
For us, it wasn't simply about sharing products.
It was about sharing the journey.
For more than 25 years, our family has handcrafted fresh, raw superfood skincare right here in the Coachella Valley. Founded by Margaret Clark and David Parker, The Body Deli began with a simple belief: nature provides some of the most powerful ingredients for healthy skin.
During their visit, the students explored our botanical collections, experienced our products firsthand, learned about our fresh ingredients, and asked thoughtful questions about what it really takes to build and grow a family-owned business.
A Story That Started With a Setback
One of the most meaningful moments of the afternoon came as Ashley shared a lesson that has become part of our family's story:
"You never know when a setback becomes your next setup."
That message isn't just something we say.
It's how The Body Deli began.
Years ago, co-founder Margaret Clark worked as a cosmetologist. Daily exposure to harsh chemicals severely damaged the skin on her hands. What could have ended her career instead became the beginning of a new chapter.
Margaret combined her passion for skincare with her love of nutrition, botanicals, and nature to create something different—fresh, handcrafted skincare inspired by the healing power of plants.
More than twenty-five years later, that philosophy continues to guide every formula we create.
Curiosity Is the Beginning of Leadership
One of our favorite parts of the afternoon was watching the students explore with genuine curiosity.
They wanted to know:
- How products are developed
- What it takes to run a family business
- Why fresh ingredients matter
- How a local company grows while staying true to its values
Those conversations reminded us that every entrepreneur starts in exactly the same place—with curiosity.
Looking Toward the Future
If we hope to inspire the next generation of leaders, it starts by sharing our experiences honestly—including both the successes and the challenges.
